Semester starts nest week and I finally started reading Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.
And as I was reading through the General Prologue (Interlinear translation - Middle English with Modern English) I get to line 111:
"Upon his arm he baar a gay bracer".
My first reaction was huh??? What the heck.
So I read the translation:
"He wore an elegant archer's wrist-guard upon his arm"
And I couldn't stop grinning. Elegant just so fits.
